In some cases, the orientation of scanned image may not be corrected properly even if "Automatic" is specified for the rotation setting of PaperStream IP. The following types of documents may not be corrected properly because the page orientation is detected based on the characters printed on the document.
- Documents scanned at a resolution of 200 dpi or less
- Documents with many photographs or figures and few characters
- Documents with many extremely large or small characters
- Documents on which the pitches between lines or characters are extremely narrow, or characters are overlapped with each other
- Documents with many characters contacting underlines or borders
- Documents with many decorated characters
- Documents with characters on patterned background
- Documents with characters printed in various directions (for example, drawings)
- Documents with handwritten characters
- Documents with light print
- Documents with blurred characters
- Documents with a lot of noise
<Solution>
Try the following solutions and check whether the problem is solved.
- On the PaperStream IP driver, click [Cleanup] > [Sharpness] and select "Emphasis" to emphasize the contour of characters.
- On the PaperStream IP driver, click [Page] > [Rotation] and select "Use Custom Rotation Settings". (For details about the settings, refer to the PaperStream IP driver Help.)
If the above solutions do not solve the issue, click [Page] > [Rotation] on the PaperStream IP driver to rotate the images using the fixed rotation angles (0 degrees, 90 degrees clockwise, 90 degrees counterclockwise, or 180 degrees).
