To enable handwritten character recognition in PaperStream Capture Pro / Pro Premium, you need to activate AI-OCR and register a form by following these steps:

- Start PaperStream Capture Pro / Pro Premium.
- Click the [Notification] button in the upper right corner of the main screen.
Note:
If the PaperStream Capture Pro AI-OCR notification does not appear in the “Notification” window:
・Go to Control Panel > Programs and select Programs and Features to check if AI-OCR is installed.
・If it is installed, proceed to register a form. If it is not installed, go to the next step to proceed with the installation.

Visit the download page for PaperStream Capture Pro / Pro Premium to download AI-OCR. You can also access the download page by clicking [Click here] in the “Notification” window.
- Download and install (or update) “PaperStream Capture Pro AI-OCR”.
Register a form
To register a form and set fields for extracting handwritten characters, follow these steps:
- Start PaperStream Capture Pro / Pro Premium.
- On the “Configure Jobs” window, select the job for which you want to recognize handwritten characters, then click the [Edit] button on the toolbar.
- Select the [Data Extraction] tab.
- Under "Applied to", select the "Form".
Note: Handwritten characters are not recognized if “Page” is selected.

Click the [Register Form] button. The “Register Form” window appears. Register the form.
Note:
- Prepare a blank form for registration. If you register a filled-out form, it may not be recognized correctly.
- It is recommended to match the scan settings for form registration with the scan settings for the job. If the image type, resolution, or paper size settings differ, a Recovery button
will appear next to the form name in the form list. Hover the mouse over the Recovery button
to view the displayed message and take appropriate action.
a) Click the [Add] button.
b) Place the original form to be registered in the scanner and click the [Scan] button.
c) Click the [Done] button to return to the “Register Form” window.
d) Enter the “Form Name”.
e) Click the [Close] button to return to the [Data Extraction] tab.
In the form list, check the box for the form to be used for data extraction.
- Click the [Define Field] button. The “Define Field” window appears.
- Click the [Add] button.
- Add a field and set the scan area for handwritten character recognition.
On the form image displayed on the right, select the area by clicking and dragging with the left mouse button. Only one area can be selected. Select an area with sufficient space. Click the [Cancel] buttonnext to the selected area to deselect it.
Note:
a) To set multiple areas, create multiple fields.
b) Click the field name in the field list to edit it.
c) Under "Type", select the “Zonal OCR”.
d) Select the “OCR Language” and “Format” from the drop-down lists.
- To add multiple fields, repeat steps 8 to 9.
- Click the [Finish] button to return to the [Data Extraction] tab.
- Save the job settings.
