The following issues may occur on Windows 11, version 24H2 as of December 25, 2024.
- When operating the fi or SP Series scanner via USB connection on a PC running Windows 11, version 24H2, the device may not be recognized properly.
- In the scanner selection screen of your capturing software, the connection name of the scanner is “WIA No Friendly Name” and the scanner name is not displayed correctly.
This problem may occur when Windows update, KB5044284, KB5044384, or KB5046617, is installed.
Workarounds
- If your OS version is earlier than Windows 11 24H2, please refrain from using or updating your OS to Windows 11, version 24H2.
- (Updated on Dec 25) In some cases, the problems can be solved by the following.
- Connect the computer where PaperStream IP is installed and the scanner via USB cable and power on the scanner.
- Run Device Manager.
- Right click on your scanner name (ex. fi-8190) under [Imaging devices], and select [Update driver].
- Select [Browse my computer for drivers].
- Select [Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer] and click [Next].
- Click your scanner name (ex. fi-8190) on the [Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware] window and click [Next]. If the scanner name is duplicated, select either one.
- When the window displays [Windows has successfully updated your drivers], click [Close] to close the window.
- Scan a document to confirm the issue is solved.
Note: The issue will occur again when the scanner is connected to another USB port. In that case, please follow the steps above again.
- When a scanner which supports network connection is used, you can avoid these issues by using LAN connection.
