If black borders appears around the image or a part of image appears missing as shown below examples,
it may be due to the following setting.
- PaperStream IP: [Cropping] - [Automatic Size] or [Deskew]
This error occurs when the paper edge detection or cropping process fails with the above settings.
For example, paper edge detection failure occurs under the following cases.
- A vertical streak appears because of dust on the scanner glass. The vertical streak is then erroneously detected as a paper edge.
- The paper edges cannot be detected because the document color (or the color around the margin) is too dark to distinguish between the background color (black) and the document color.
- The paper edges cannot be detected because the text or black areas around the margin are erroneously recognized as the background color.
Solution
If caused by dust.
If the failure is caused by dust, cleaning the scanner glass may solve the problem.
Try cleaning the glass inside the scanner, referring to the Operator's Guide for your scanner.
Even when using Simplex Scan, clean the glass on the other side in the same way just in case.
Note: | If there is dust inside the scanner, you will not be able to clean the scanner by yourself. Please contact a local subsidiary near you to arrange for repair. |
If caused by the document.
When scanning the following documents it is recommended to use [Accuracy] function for [Priority] or without using the automatic paper size detection function.
For detail, Paper size is not detected correctly, even though [Automatic Size] is configured for [Cropping].
- Documents that include text or ruled lines within 5 mm of the perimeter
- Documents that have a mixture of pages with black areas (solid color) around the edge, such as comics or manga
Reference:
- When using the [Automatic Size] function, thin lines of about 1 mm may appear around the image. Try enabling the [Edge Correction] function to make the lines less noticeable.
